What Sketch Telephone is
Everyone writes a sentence. The next player draws it, the next describes the drawing, and so on round the table. Then you watch each chain fall apart, one step at a time.
Sketch Telephone is Table Party’s independent drawing-and-description game, inspired by Gartic Phone. Each player sees only the latest step, so a small misunderstanding can transform the entire story.
Start with something drawable, such as “a penguin carrying a birthday cake.” The next player draws it; someone else describes that picture without seeing your original sentence. At the reveal, the group sees how the idea changed. There are no points to defend.
How to play Sketch Telephone
- Everyone writes one sentence — something somebody could draw. Tap the dice if you are stuck.
- Your sentence goes to the next player, who draws it with a finger. They never see anything but your words.
- The drawing goes to the next player, who writes what they think it shows. They never see the sentence.
- Draw, describe, draw, describe, until every player has touched every chain once.
- Then the room watches each chain unravel from the first sentence to the last. No points — the reveal is the prize.
- Run out of time and the house hands in a blank page or a house line, so the chain never breaks.
How to win at Sketch Telephone
Give the drawing a subject
A person, an object and an action are enough to start an interesting chain.
Describe what you see
The surprise works best when each description follows the drawing in front of you.
Questions about Sketch Telephone
Does anyone see the whole chain before the reveal?
No. Each player sees only the step before theirs, a sentence or a drawing, so the whole chain stays hidden until the reveal.
What if a player runs out of time?
The game submits a blank page or a house line so that the chain can continue.
Is Sketch Telephone free?
Yes. Every game on Table Party is free, with no accounts, no adverts and nothing to buy.
How many people do you need for Sketch Telephone?
Between 2 and 10. Below 2 there are not enough of you for the game to work.
Do we need to download anything?
No. One person opens the site and starts a room; everybody else joins by typing the room code on their own phone. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
Can we play Sketch Telephone over a video call?
Yes. Share the room code in the chat and play with the call running — everything private stays on each player’s own phone.
